Not long after the Mexican presidential election, someone beheads twenty-three people at the American border. Mexican Comandante Cecilia Garza recognizes the Hummingbird etching on each body as the trademark of Chuparosa the assassin. Garza concludes Chuparosa plans a major event at the United Nations Week summit in New York where her President Vargas will attend; so she heads to Manhattan.

Having dealt with Swedish jihadists coming through the porous Canadian border, NYPD Intelligence Division Detective Jeremy Fisk works security at the summit though his role is at the office. While a mass murder with decapitated bodies with etched hummingbirds occurs in Rockaway, Queens, Fisk meets Garza and learns of Chuparosa's planned assassination of President Vargas. Though both suffer from the violent loss of loved ones and a need to cooperate, the two cops reluctantly agree to team up to not just prevent Chuparosa from causing murderous havoc at the UN and Manhattan, but to end his reign of terror permanently though neither of their agencies believe this mass killer exists.

The second Fisk police procedural (see The Intercept) is a strong thriller due to the fully developed lead triangle as readers get to know each of them; especially interesting is Garza whose motivation is her mother and sister. The fast-paced storyline is frantic as time runs out and action-packed but decelerates as the plot nears the anticipated climatic confrontation before regaining final twisting speed. Still this is a ride worth taking by genre fans.

This is a must read. If you like Law & Order series this is better. It starts with the murder and decapitation of men that have been dumped into the back of a truck. All have been decapitated except for a young man. He is naked and bound and found by the Federals led by Garza. Next the story leads into New York, where an assassination is planned. A nonstop reading.
I usually do not like recurring character, but this second installment of Jeremy FISK is a fast paced story... a page turner... I liked the short chapters that make you want to read the next one without committing the rest of the evening... yet, you keep going... I am ready for mr wolf next book...
I have just finished fellow author Dick Wolf's second novel and it was quite good. I prefer a more dialogue-driven tale but that is just me and not meant to take away from the author's work. His short, action-filled chapters kept the story moving quickly forward. I look forward to the next adventure with Jeremy Fisk. Well done, Mr. Wolf!

I know it's cruel to compare any author, no matter how accomplished, to Tom Clancy, but once you've "met" a Clancy character, no one else ever quite makes the cut when it comes to development. Excellent story line throughout the trilogy, however, and a really good read.
Very good thriller and follow up to his outstanding five star debut "The Intercept." I hope Mr. Wolf continues to write such exciting and informational topical thrillers. His TV shows are good, but his books may be better! Fisk is an admirable hero, the plots are fun and the conclusion wonderfully realized. This story said much about the characters beyond the action story. Thank you!
Really enjoyable read. I was intrigued with the author's building of this story. Development of characters. The gradual movement of characters into each other's lives. I thought the slow attraction of our main characters was really worth waiting for, not a romantic rush, but a slow movement of trust and attraction. I don't always enjoy this kind of story, even with a female character to hopefully draw women readers. However, it was really a super good story. I didn't see a lot of the twists coming and I usually think I see them. Mr. Wolf was very good at making me think hard as to where we were heading next. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
It was bad very poor writing It did not make any coherent sense. The character was not believable. I will not buy or read
